"Showing the Public a Better Way to Manage Our Natural Resources"

Dear School Counselor and or Ag Instructor,

Enclosed is a copy of the Scholarship application we have developed to assist students entering college in the Agricultural, Natural Resource or Environmental Science field who are residents of Kankakee County. If you have any questions, please call me at the District office at 937-8940, ext. 3.

Scholarship Program:

There is one $1000 scholarship. It will be paid in two even increments, one after registration for the fall semester and one after successful completion of the fall semester and registration for the spring semester. The award is to cover educational costs such as tuition, fees, books and course materials at a college or university. The award recognizes an individual who is working toward an accredited Agriculture, Natural Resource or Environmental Science degree.

Eligibility:
*** Must be a resident of Kankakee County to apply
*** Must take a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester
*** Must take a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester in Agriculture, Natural Resource or Environmental Science courses
*** Must submit the application form and a letter of recommendation

Candidates will be judged using the following guidelines:
***How close the student's major reflects the District's mission statement.
***How close the student's goals or desires reflect the District's mission statement.
***Evidence that the student has participated in activities that reflect the District's mission statement, i.e. Kids Day at the Farm, Land Use Judging Contest, the Envirothon, River Watch.
***Grade Point Average.
***Financial Need.

A committee designated by the Kankakee County Soil and Water Conservation District, Bourbonnais, IL shall make the selection of the scholarship recipients. The decision of the committee will be final and will be based on the information made available to the committee.

Application Deadline:
Completed applications must be received at the District office by 3:30 p.m. on April 25, 2008.
