Education: Poster Contest

February 2005

Dear Educator of Third through Eighth grades,

The Kankakee County SWCD is again sponsoring the annual poster contest for students living in Kankakee County. All Kankakee County Students in the Third through Eighth grades are eligible for the contest. This year’s theme is “Celebrate Conservation”. We experience a life that is both rich and full. People are enjoying better health and we have available a variety of fresh foods for us to eat. Our air and water quality continues to improve. Good conservation practices help to make this possible. Soil and water resources are some of our greatest treasures. As we give thanks for this great life, let us celebrate conservation.

Students compete against other students in the same grade, and winner of each grade compete for the overall championship. Judging will be based on: 50% conservation message (how well the message relates to the theme (Celebrate Conservation), 30% visual effectiveness, 10% originality, and 10% universal appeal. All entries receive a certificate of participation. First place, second and third place winners in all classes participating will receive a ribbon and grade winners also receive a trophy. The overall winner’s poster will be placed in statewide competition.

Poster size must be between 8.5” x 11” and 22” x 28”. Any medium may be used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect (paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, paper or other materials). The enclosed entry form must be completed and attached to the back of all posters (photocopy as needed). Also, a type written list of all participants, including their grade level and teacher’s name should accompany the posters.

If the District can be of any help or answer any questions, please contact us. Posters are due in our office by 4:00 P.M. on Friday April 8, 2005.
Sincerely,

Gale Boudreau
Administrative Coordinator
