Kid's Day at the Farm |
Kids Day at The Farm Kids Day at the Farm is the premiere agricultural education event in Kankakee County. The event, hosted by the Kankakee Area Ag Expo Committee, offers the fourth graders of Kankakee County the opportunity to learn about agriculture by visiting more than 15 stations with Ag Professionals speaking on their area of expertise. The event held each March brings together government agencies and the Kankakee County Corn Growers to share their stories and to convey to students that food doesn’t come from the refrigerator and that heat doesn’t come from an electric switch. The students spend a half day at the Kankakee County Fair and Exposition hearing about corn, soybeans, food production, soil and water quality, specialty crops, and seeing dairy and beef cattle, swine, horses and sheep. This is often the first and only time that many students will have to see animals up close and hopefully begin to understand about the importance of food and fiber production to the State of Illinois and the United States. The Kid's Day committee is made up of representatives of the public, Kankakee SWCD District staff, U of I Extension staff, Farm Bureau staff and WKAN staff and works to improve the public image of agriculture by providing educational events throughout the year. 2008 Kids Day will be held March 19th & 20th. |
