Envirothon |
| The District will co-host the Land Use Council III Envirothon at the Kankakee County Fair and Exposition on April 3, 2008. In addition to the Kankakee SWCD, other sponsors are the Livingston, Iroquois, LaSalle, Kendall and Grundy SWCDs. Five person teams made up of high school students will compete in an academic contest on subjects such as soils, fisheries, wildlife, forestry and urban issues with the winner going on to the statewide contest in Monticello in May, Last year’s winner was a team from Morris High School that then finished second at the state contest. Morris will be back to defend their title this year. The Envirothon is a nationwide competition on environmental issues and helps teach students how to work cooperatively. Every high school in Kankakee County is eligible to enter a team. For more information about the event, contact Rich Howell, Conservation District Manager at 815-937-8940, ext. 3. |
