Environmental Education Teacher Grants

2008-2009 Teacher Grant Program

The Kankakee County Soil and Water Conservation District is again pleased to announce that it is offering a grant program for environmental/natural resource/agricultural education. The Kankakee SWCD is offering four $250 grants to teachers of students from Kankakee County, grades K – 12, for materials, speakers or other needs that the teacher identifies. To apply for a grant, a teacher should provide the Kankakee SWCD with one a one-page description and timeline of the project. Applications will be judged on how well they meet the Kankakee SWCD’s mission statement of “Showing the public a better way to manage our natural resources.” The grants are for projects in either the spring 2009 semester or the fall 2009 semester. Projects that have been funded in the past include outdoor classrooms, worm composting, butterfly gardens, natural resource tours and tree planting. After grants are awarded and projects completed, the winners of the grants are asked to provide pictures of the project for the Kankakee SWCD to use on our website.

Application letters are due into the District office by the close of business on Friday, October 31, 2008 either by US mail or to Rich Howell at Richard.Howell@il.nacdnet.net. Winners will be notified in mid to late November and publicly recognized at the Kankakee SWCD’s Annual Meeting that will be held on February 5, 2009.

If there are any questions, contact Rich Howell at 815-937-8940, ext. 3 between seven a.m. and three thirty p.m. or by using the email address above.
